It seems to me after looking through existing stamps online that America pretty much have it sorted out compared with UK stamps.
While researching, I came across a design to be entered in the same competition but I'm not sure which year. I think the design is effective in that it is eye-catching with its bold colours and the imagery suggests recycling and ways of cutting energy usage. http://10.fromfalmouth.co.uk/bent-ellingsather/
